I read this (rather listened to the audiobook) in a day and a half. I thought it was great, and I thought the audiobook format was a great way to read it. The whole book is done in these series of interviews. In the audiobook version, the author Max Brooks acts as the interviewer, and the rest of the voices are all done by different people. Sometimes this can be confusing in an audiobook, but in this interview style, it really works. And the cast of actors that signed up to lend their voices to the project is pretty amazing as well.
The cast includes Alan Alda, Mark Hamill, Henry Rollins, Eamonn Walker, Ajay Naidu, Jay O’Sanders, Dennis Boutsikaris, Becky Ann Baker, Steve Park, Frank Kamai, John McElroy, John Turturro, Rob Reiner, Carl Reiner, Jurgen Prochnow, Waleed Zuiater, Dean Edwards, Michelle Kholos, and Maz Jobrani.
The book is divided up into different cities around the globe each giving their perspective of the Zombie Wars as they happened and their aftermath. Cuba was my personal favorite.
This is slated to make its way to the a theater near you on June 21, 2013 staring Brad Pitt, and I really feel that this book will translate very well to the big screen.
I read this and loved it. I might actually listen to the audio book for the cast. I have to say that I don’t see this translating to film very easily. I suppose that Brad Pitt means that some dollars have been invested, so I can hope that thought was put into it. I get you with Cuba, but I thought the whole bit about sailing off on ships was the creepiest. If you are into Zombies, there was an on line argument, a polite one, but an argument, between two authors as to which was cooler: zombies or unicorns. The result was Zombies vs. Unicorns, a book of short stories, all by accomplished authors, trying to prove their side better. It’s amazeballs.
